Color: Black and tan, liver and tan, and red, sometimes with small amounts of white.

Life span: 5 to 9 years.

General characteristics/temperament: Bloodhounds are gentle, sensitive, and extremely affectionate, making them excellent family pets. However, due to their very large size and their tendency to be stubborn and to drool excessively, there is a high rate of bloodhounds that are given up for adoption once they are full-grown. They are very powerful and are well known for their ability to follow a scent hours or even days old, over long distances. This ability makes them excellent for tracking escaped prisoners or missing persons. They are so accurate that evidence trailed by a Bloodhound has been accepted in a court of law. As family pets, they are incredibly devoted and loving, but because they have absolutely no road sense at all, they need to be protected with a fenced yard and must only be walked with a lead.
