General characteristics/temperament: The Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen is active, alert, courageous, happy and confident. Although good natured, they are generally independent and might be challenging to train. As a scent hound, they will follow their nose into traffic and other danger, and must be kept in a securely fenced area or on a leash when they are outside.
