Color: A dramatic mixture of gray, black and cream.

Life span: 12 to 15 years.

General characteristics/temperament: The Keeshond is outgoing, friendly, lively, intelligent, alert, and affectionate. They are friendly with both people and other dogs, and are fond of children, making them excellent family dogs. They are quick learners, eager to please, and tend to become clingy to their owners. They have a loud bark and are very good watchdogs. However, while they will warn of any visitors, they will generally welcome the visitors into the home affectionately. The most common behavioral problem in Keeshonds is destructiveness out of boredom.

Suitable canine sports/activities: obedience, agility

Grooming requirement: The thick double coat needs to be brushed for about an hour weekly. The coat tends to shed dirt and has little doggie odor, so only needs baths infrequently.

Known health problems: Hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, epilepsy, Cushing's disease, hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, von Willebrand's disease.
