Breed origin: France
Original purpose: Scent hound developed first and foremost to hunt small game over the rough and difficult terrain of the Vendéen region.

Height: 13 to 15 inches
Color: White with any combination of lemon, orange, black, sable, tricolor or grizzle markings.
Life span: 10 to 14 years.
General characteristics/temperament: The The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is confident, happy, extroverted, independent, compact, and robust. Although they are independent, they are quite willing to please their owners. They are generally good with children, but their high energy level and tendency to play bite may pose a problem with very young children. They have a strong hunting instinct and many will chase cats and other small animals.

Suitable canine sports/activities: obedience, agility, tracking, flyball, therapy, hunting, search and rescue
Exercise requirement: Daily walks and/or play sessions.

Known health problems: Hypothyroidism, retinal folds, persistent pupiliary membranes, hip dysplasia, epilepsy, patellar luxation, ear infections.
