Life span: 10 to 15 years.

General characteristics/temperament: The Puli is affectionate, intelligent, alert, active, agile, vigorous, and loyal. They are suspicious of strangers and naturally protective, and make excellent watchdogs. Because they are very independent and strong-willed, obedience training must start in early puppyhood. They remain playful well into old age.

Suitable canine sports/activities: conformation, obedience, agility, herding, tracking

Grooming requirement: The unique corded coat is the result of a controlled matting process. The cords begin to from naturally around nine months of age. Newly-formed cords need to be separated by hand, otherwise the hair may form a solid mat instead. When a bath is required, care needs to be taken to soak the coat and also to rinse the shampoo off very well. After a bath, the coat takes several hours to dry, and it must not be allowed to stay damp, otherwise it can lead to mildew.
