Original purpose: Versatile herder.

Size: Weight: 15 to 32 lbs
Size: Height: males 15½ to 21 inches; females 15 to 20½ inches

Color: Various shades of fawn, grey, merle, brindle, black, or black with white markings.

Life span: 12 to 18 years.

General characteristics/temperament: The Pyrenean Shepherd is intelligent, active, enthusiastic, mischievous, athletic, alert, and vigilant. They make excellent family dogs and are very affectionate with their family but are distrustful of strangers. They have a very strong herding instinct and loves to work. They tend to become passionately attached to their owners, sometimes to the complete exclusion of all others, and are extremely sensitive to their owners' moods. Early and consistent socialization and obedience training are a must with this breed.

Good jogging partner? Yes

Suitable canine sports/activities: obedience, herding, agility, flyball, tracking, search and rescue

Exercise requirement: Access to a securely fenced area where they can run and play daily. In addition, at least an hour at the park several times a week.

Grooming requirement: Brush every one to two weeks to prevent mats. If not brushed regularly, the coat will form cords naturally.

Known health problems: Hip dysplasia, epilepsy, patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, patent ductus arteriosis.
